FIR Registration — Quick Reference
Who Can Register?
The victim, parent/guardian for minors, any person on behalf of the victim, NCPCR, SCPCR, or recognised NGOs under JJ Act.
Jurisdiction
Cyber crimes may be registered at any police station. Offence is considered committed where the content was received or viewed. Dedicated CCPS have concurrent jurisdiction.
Key FIR Elements
Complete offence description, URLs, platform names, handles/usernames, date/time of first knowledge, screenshots, victim details, consent statement, relief sought.
Zero FIR
A police officer should not refuse registration on jurisdictional grounds. Register, preserve evidence, initiate urgent takedown, and transfer to competent PS.
